As a responsible employer and business invested in the wellbeing of our employees, we are saddened by the incident at Checkers Northmead square involving one of our merchandisers. Smollan strongly opposes any conduct that disregards the dignity of our people and the values we ascribe to.

We are in contact with the employee to provide her with support throughout the ordeal and are engaged in discussions with Shoprite Holdings, who have instituted a formal enquiry and disciplinary process against the individual involved.

We take this matter seriously and are committed to ensuring our employees are treated fairly and with respect.
