Smollan India’s Personal Excellence Programme

On 20 June 2019, Smollan India’s Learning & Development (L&D) team successfully launched an inaugural two-day executive development programme – called “Personal Excellence” – with a vision to train and develop over 200 C Band (and above) employees from head office and the global development centre.

At the beginning of the project, the talent management team initiated a performance management cycle, and recorded the personal development plan for C Band and above employees from their respective managers. Furthermore, they overlaid the foundational learnings with personal and business performance parameters to ensure full alignment to business and personal goals.

The result was a detailed report and a plan to formulate and navigate the programme, covering key topics such as strategy and people management, operational and leadership excellence.

The above components supported the sub-set training topics including:

  • Team Alignment
  • Accountability
  • Empathy
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Planning and Organising
  • Continuous Process Improvement
  • Agility
  • Problem Solving
  • Fostering Creativity
  • Adapting to Change

Pre-work to the training

As a part of the pre-work to the training, each participant completed online self-assessment, a questionnaire to assess the participant and how they fared at each competency.

Programme learning approach

The workshop was designed to be completely experiential in nature and is based on Kolb’s experiential learning cycle – a holistic perspective that combines experience, perception, cognition and behaviour.

I think by far this is one of the best training sessions I have been on. It was fun, interactive and engaging and through this approach, we learnt so much. We have so much to take back to our own daily environments; to implement the learnings and that’s exciting. Kudos to the team.” – Akashdeep Singh

Smollan India L&D also partnered with FocusU, an expert team of Experiential Training professionals to both develop and deliver the Personal Excellence Programme.

Organizations with a culture of learning are more successful because they are agile enough to step up to the challenge when workforces change and businesses evolve. The Personal Excellence programme is a robust and exciting venture for Smollan India L&D, one that promises to expand the knowledge base of our talent going forward.
